Using Twitter for Keyword Research

twemesEven though this blog is still in its infancy, it shouldn’t take long for you to realise that my thoughts on Keyword Analysis do not focus solely on phrases that users type into a search engine. The web has changed, it’s changing more every day, and there are many ways that people find information. Search is still king… but social media isn’t far behind, and studying what’s popular in the various channels can not only help find new niches, but it can also give you lots of ideas to blog about.

I’ve only really just started playing around with Twitter, so my profile is depressingly boring at the moment (you can follow me here: Twitter MartyJ), but I’m quickly becoming hooked… especially with all the really cool ways to track what’s popular in the twitterverse.

I’ve already found quite a few useful sites, but the two I’m most interested in at this stage are Terraminds and Twemes.

Terraminds is probably the most useful overall, as it indexes every word that is twittered and let’s you search on that… want to know say whether Keyword Research is more popular than Keyword Analysis? Terraminds has the count at 231 to 28 in favour of Keyword Research, yes you can get this sort of thing at any regular keyword research tool, but it’s another way of confirming the trends from another source. Want more? why not search for something like How Keyword, you’ll get a list of ‘how’ questions relating to your keyword that people have asked on Twitter… subscribe to the RSS feed of that search and you’ll never run out of ideas for posts on your blog again.

Twemes is different, it restricts you to words preceded by a #, meaning you’re really searching tags (from people who actually know about it) than actual words, but still useful I reckon, especially since it shows you related tags (from what I can tell it’s just other tags people use in the same post as the one you’re interested in).

They are definitely worth a more comprehensive look… I’m sure there are articles out already about how to best use these tools, but as a relatively new Twitter user, I’ll probably spend a bit of time tinkering on my own first… never know what I might find.

Is Terraminds still working? I haven’t been able to access it for the past couple of days?

Some interesting ideas, not sure where you’d use them though.
